How should orchitis be treated?

Dr. Li Mingchuan
The treatment of orchitis mainly includes two approaches: medication and surgery. In terms of drug therapy, antibiotics are primarily used to suppress or eliminate the causative pathogens and reduce inflammatory responses, with a typical treatment course lasting 7–14 days. Additionally, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and analgesics may be used to relieve symptoms such as pain and fever. If drug therapy proves ineffective or the condition is severe, surgical intervention may be necessary, including procedures such as orchiopexy, orchiectomy, or epididymectomy. These surgeries aim to remove the source of infection, reduce inflammation and swelling, and improve fertility. During treatment, patients should keep the affected area clean and dry, avoid excessive fatigue and prolonged standing, to promote blood circulation and facilitate recovery.
