What should I do if my child has a fever?
Disease description:
My baby has a fever with a temperature around 38°C. I would like to know what to do when a child has a fever.
When children have a fever, parents can take the following measures:
1. Hydration: Ensure the child takes in sufficient fluids, as dehydration can easily occur during fever. Encourage the child to drink more water to maintain internal fluid balance.
2. Physical cooling: Parents can use lukewarm water to wipe areas rich in blood vessels, such as the armpits, palms, and soles, or give the child a lukewarm bath to promote skin circulation and assist in reducing body temperature. Avoid using cold water or ice packs, as they may irritate the child.
3. Medication for fever reduction: If the child's temperature continues to rise above 38.5°C, fever-reducing medications such as ibuprofen granules or acetaminophen granules may be considered under medical guidance. Note that infants under one year of age should preferably use liquid drops, as these formulations have lower drug concentration and are less irritating.
