Disease description:
What are the symptoms of ureteral stones?

The typical symptoms of ureteral stones mainly include:
1. Severe pain in the flank or upper abdomen, which may radiate to the groin or perineum; the pain is often paroxysmal colicky in nature and can be excruciating.
2. As the stone moves within the ureter, it may injure the ureteral mucosa, leading to hematuria—often microscopic, but sometimes gross hematuria may occur.
3. When the stone is located in the intramural segment of the ureter near the bladder, symptoms of bladder irritation such as urinary frequency, urgency, and dysuria may appear.
4. Severe pain may be accompanied by gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting.
5. Ureteral obstruction by the stone can impair urine drainage, resulting in hydronephrosis; prolonged obstruction may also damage renal function.
