How is Achilles tendon rupture treated?
Disease description:
Accidentally fell into a deep hole and injured my foot. After going to the hospital, I was diagnosed with Achilles tendon rupture. May I ask how Achilles tendon rupture is treated?

The treatment for Achilles tendon rupture primarily depends on the severity of the rupture and the duration since injury.
1. For acute Achilles tendon rupture (within 3 weeks of injury), conservative management may be adopted if the rupture is mild, such as immobilization with a cast for 4 weeks, during which weight-bearing should be avoided, followed by 4 weeks of brace fixation to promote healing. If the rupture is severe, early surgical intervention is recommended, such as minimally invasive or open surgical repair. Postoperatively, immobilization with a cast is also required for 4–6 weeks, followed by rehabilitation exercises.
2. For chronic Achilles tendon ruptures, treatment becomes more challenging and may require surgical repair using remaining tendon tissue or tendon grafts.
During the rehabilitation process, appropriate rehabilitation training and avoiding excessive physical activity are crucial.
