I've been experiencing severe hair loss recently. Since my father is bald, I'm worried about inheriting it. May I ask if baldness is inherited through the Y chromosome?

There are differing views and research findings regarding whether baldness is inherited through the Y chromosome. On one hand, some suggest that baldness is associated with genetic variations in the androgen receptor gene on the Y chromosome, which may make men more prone to hair loss. Since the Y chromosome is a male sex chromosome, this genetic trait tends to be more pronounced in males. On the other hand, studies also indicate that the inheritance of baldness may be more complex, potentially involving the combined effects of multiple genes and linked to autosomal inheritance as well. Although genetic variations on the Y chromosome may be somewhat related to male baldness, baldness is not a simple Y-chromosome-linked genetic disorder. The genetic mechanism of baldness involves interactions among multiple genes and environmental factors, so it cannot be simply attributed to Y-chromosome inheritance.
