Pediatric Fever Management Methods
Disease description:
My child developed a fever and general weakness in the middle of the night. What are the appropriate measures for managing a child's fever?
The management of fever in children mainly includes the following aspects:
1. Physical cooling: When a child's body temperature does not exceed 38.5°C, physical cooling methods can be used, such as applying a soft towel soaked in cool water (around 10°C) to the forehead, changing it every 3-5 minutes; or using an ice pack on the head to accelerate heat dissipation.
2. Replenishing fluids: During fever, children lose significant amounts of body water, so timely hydration is necessary to prevent dehydration and increase urine output, which helps eliminate toxins from the body.
3. Regular temperature monitoring: Parents should regularly measure the child's body temperature and monitor temperature changes. If the temperature continues to rise and exceeds 38.5°C, appropriate antipyretic medications such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen should be administered.
4. Attention to diet and rest: During fever, children's diet should be light and easily digestible, avoiding greasy foods, and sufficient rest should be ensured.
If fever is accompanied by symptoms such as coughing, runny nose, vomiting, or diarrhea, prompt medical attention should be sought.
