Can severe oral ulcers lead to cancer?
Disease description:
Last week I attended a funeral for someone who passed away from oral cancer. I only know about the condition of mouth ulcers and wonder if severe mouth ulcers can lead to cancer.
Although severe oral ulcers have no direct and inevitable relationship with cancer, long-term oral ulcers that are not properly treated and repeatedly occur may potentially induce cancer.
1. Oral ulcers and cancer are two distinct diseases with different causes and mechanisms. Oral ulcers are often caused by genetic factors, immune system decline, mental stress, unbalanced diet, or traumatic factors, while cancer results from malignant proliferation of body cells.
2. If oral ulcers fail to receive effective treatment over a prolonged period and frequently recur, the persistent irritation and damage to local tissues may increase the risk of cancer development. According to related research, although there are no exact figures indicating the proportion of cancer cases directly caused by oral ulcers, chronic inflammation and tissue damage are indeed recognized as among the contributing factors for certain cancers.
For oral ulcers, timely medical attention and appropriate treatment measures should be taken to prevent long-term recurrence and reduce the potential risk of carcinogenesis.
