Hemolysis refers to the rupture of red blood cells with the release of hemoglobin, also known as red blood cell lysis, commonly termed hemolysis. It is important to clarify that hemolysis does not directly cause intellectual disability or cognitive impairment in children. Hemolytic disease may be triggered by various factors such as blood type incompatibility, infections, and medications. Its symptoms vary but mainly involve the hematologic system rather than the nervous system. If hemolysis is severe and not promptly and effectively treated, it may lead to a series of complications such as anemia, jaundice, and renal failure. These complications might, in extreme cases, have some impact on the nervous system, but this is not caused by hemolysis itself. Therefore, for children with hemolysis, timely diagnosis and treatment are crucial to alleviate symptoms, prevent complications, and ensure adequate nutrition and care for the child.
