Is chronic mesenteric lymphadenitis serious?
Disease description:
My child is experiencing nausea, vomiting, and fever. After examination, it was diagnosed as chronic mesenteric lymphadenitis. I'm worried about the severity of the condition. Is chronic mesenteric lymphadenitis serious?
Chronic mesenteric lymphadenitis is generally not serious and typically has a good prognosis. It is a benign condition caused by long-standing infection or mild immune reaction, with mild and non-invasive symptoms. The main symptoms include abdominal pain, abdominal tenderness, diarrhea, weight loss, and fever, which may persist or recur. Regarding treatment, depending on the type of infection, medications such as antibiotics, antiviral drugs, or anti-tuberculosis drugs may be used. In most cases, chronic mesenteric lymphadenitis can be effectively controlled and managed through appropriate treatment and self-care by the patient. However, if the condition is severe or persistent, surgical treatment may be required.
