Acute mesenteric lymphadenitis can be differentiated through physical examination, laboratory tests, and imaging studies. Physical examination may reveal tenderness in the right lower quadrant, with the tender point located higher and more medial compared to acute appendicitis. Laboratory tests show decreased white blood cell count and a relatively increased proportion of lymphocytes. Ultrasound can assess for lymph node enlargement and bowel wall thickening, while CT scans can detect enlarged lymph nodes.
