Can pulpitis cause otitis externa?
Disease description:
I just recovered from pulpitis last week, and then my external auditory canal became inflamed these two days. I have been wondering whether it was caused by the pulpitis. Can pulpitis lead to external auditory canal inflammation?
Pulpitis usually does not cause external otitis. Pulpitis is an inflammatory condition occurring in the dental pulp tissue, primarily caused by bacterial infection, chemical irritation, and other factors. Its typical symptom is severe tooth pain, which may worsen when exposed to hot or cold stimuli. If the condition is severe, the inflammation might spread to the surrounding periapical tissues, but generally does not affect the external ear canal.
In comparison, external otitis typically relates to factors such as excessive internal heat ("fire"), improper ear cleaning, water entering the ear, and others. If symptoms such as ear pain or a sensation of water in the ear occur, it may indicate otitis media or other ear-related diseases. Therefore, timely medical consultation is recommended to establish a clear diagnosis through examinations like electronic otoscopy and to receive appropriate treatment under a physician's guidance.
If ear discomfort occurs, prompt medical attention is advised.
