Dr. Guo Huijie
Metronidazole has certain efficacy in treating pulpitis, but it usually serves only as an adjunctive treatment. Metronidazole is an antibiotic effective against anaerobic bacteria and trichomonads, commonly used to treat discomfort caused by intestinal or anaerobic bacterial infections. Pulpitis generally is caused by bacterial infection, physical irritation, decreased immunity, and other factors. If pulpitis is caused specifically by anaerobic bacterial infection, metronidazole can help inhibit bacterial growth to some extent and aid in relieving inflammation. However, metronidazole cannot cure pulpitis completely, as treatment for pulpitis usually requires surgical intervention, such as root canal therapy. Therefore, while metronidazole can serve as an adjunct in the treatment process of pulpitis, the primary treatments should still be conducted under a physician's guidance. Additionally, maintaining good oral hygiene habits is also an important measure in both preventing and treating pulpitis.
