The main symptoms of polymyositis include the following: 1. Muscular symptoms: Primarily characterized by symmetrical weakness of the proximal limbs, neck muscles, and pharyngeal muscles, along with muscle tenderness. The condition typically affects both sides of the body symmetrically. Approximately 20% of patients also have other autoimmune diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus or rheumatoid arthritis. 2. Dermatological symptoms: Some patients may develop a purplish-red rash, commonly appearing on sun-exposed areas such as the face, hands, and neck. 3.
