What causes neutropenia?
Disease description:
Today, I accompanied a friend to the hospital for a checkup and found out that they have neutropenia, which caused considerable concern. May I ask, what causes neutropenia?

Neutropenia refers to an absolute decrease in the number of neutrophils in the peripheral blood below the normal range. There are several causes for neutropenia:
1. Infectious factors: Especially Gram-negative bacillary infections, such as typhoid and paratyphoid infections, and certain viral diseases, such as influenza and viral hepatitis, can all potentially lead to neutropenia.
2. Hematologic disorders: Conditions such as aplastic anemia, hemophagocytic syndrome, and severe iron-deficiency anemia often present with neutropenia.
3. Injury from physical or chemical factors: Physical agents such as X-rays and radioactive isotopes, as well as chemical substances like benzene, lead, and mercury, and certain medications, such as chloramphenicol and sulfonamides, may all cause neutropenia.
When neutropenia is detected, timely medical consultation is necessary to identify the underlying cause and implement appropriate treatment measures.
