How is dysentery caused?
Disease description:
The child has been infected with bacillary dysentery, experiencing symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and even passing blood in the stool. How is dysentery caused?
Bacillary dysentery is mainly caused by infection with Shigella, an intestinal infectious disease transmitted via the fecal-oral route. The causes of dysentery include:
1. Unhygienic eating habits—Shigella can survive on contaminated food and water sources, so consuming contaminated food is a significant cause of dysentery;
2. Weakened immunity—as the body's immune system weakens, even a small number of Shigella bacteria may cause disease;
3. Poor living and environmental hygiene—for example, increased fly populations may carry Shigella and contaminate food and daily necessities, thus worsening the condition;
4. Abdominal chilling, indigestion, and infections with other bacteria may also lead to dysentery.
To prevent dysentery, it is recommended to maintain food hygiene, strengthen immunity, and preserve a healthy living environment.
