Dysentery is an intestinal infectious disease caused by bacterial infection, and therefore it is contagious. The primary transmission route of dysentery is the fecal-oral route, whereby pathogens are excreted in the feces of patients or carriers and then ingested orally through contaminated water, food, or hands. Additionally, it can spread through daily contact, such as touching household items used by patients or carriers. Hence, to prevent the spread of dysentery, we should pay attention to personal hygiene, wash hands frequently, avoid consuming unclean food, and refrain from drinking untreated water to reduce the risk of infection. At the same time, patients who are already ill should be isolated and treated promptly to reduce the source of infection.
