What are the foods containing DHA?
Disease description:
I am currently pregnant, and my doctor said I can take some DHA supplements. I would like to know what foods also contain DHA.
DHA, scientifically known as docosahexaenoic acid and commonly referred to as "brain gold," is a polyunsaturated fatty acid that is essential for the human body. Foods rich in DHA mainly include the following categories:
1. **Deep-sea fish**: Such as tuna, sardines, hairtail, saury, and salmon. These fish are rich in DHA, especially in their fish oil. Consuming deep-sea fish appropriately can help supplement DHA and promote brain and visual development.
2. **Algae**: Seaweed, wakame, and kelp also contain relatively high levels of DHA. Algae are often artificially cultivated, making them less prone to contamination and more stable, thus serving as a good source of DHA.
3. **Nuts**: Nuts such as walnuts, peanuts, almonds, and sesame seeds are rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). This component can be converted into DHA in the human body, thereby increasing DHA levels.
4. **Eggs and dairy products**: Eggs (chicken, duck, goose, and quail eggs), as well as milk, yogurt, and cheese, contain certain amounts of DHA, particularly in the egg yolk.
5. **Other foods**: Although not as rich as the above-mentioned foods, some fresh fruits such as apples, grapes, and oranges also contain small amounts of DHA.
However, more DHA is not necessarily better. The appropriate intake should be based on individual physical conditions and health status. For special populations such as pregnant women and infants, DHA supplementation should be conducted under the guidance of a qualified physician.
