Where to Expose for Jaundice Sunlight Therapy
Disease description:
Recently, during a hospital check-up, I was diagnosed with jaundice. I heard from a friend that exposure to sunlight is beneficial for jaundice. May I ask, which part of the body should be exposed to sunlight for jaundice?
Sunbathing is an auxiliary treatment method for jaundice, primarily targeting physiological jaundice. When exposing to sunlight, the following points should be noted:
1. Selection of body areas for sun exposure: It is recommended to expose areas with larger skin surfaces such as the trunk, limbs, back, and buttocks. These areas can better absorb sunlight and promote bilirubin metabolism. Direct exposure of the newborn's eyes and genital area should be avoided to prevent injury.
2. Attention to timing and intensity of sun exposure: Sunbathing is best done before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m. to avoid strong sunlight that may harm the skin. Each sunbathing session should not be too long; it is recommended to limit exposure to within 1–2 hours.
3. Ensuring adequate hydration: During sunbathing, newborns may sweat more easily, so it is important to provide sufficient fluids to prevent dehydration.
If necessary, seek medical attention promptly.
