Gastroesophageal flaccidity refers to a condition where the muscles at the gastroesophageal junction become relaxed, allowing stomach acid and gastric contents to reflux into the esophagus, thereby causing a series of health problems. The main causes include: 1. Relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter, which allows gastric contents to more easily reflux into the esophagus. 2. Hiatal hernia, in which the diaphragm sags, reducing the barrier between the gastroesophageal sphincter and intra-abdominal pressure, thereby increasing the likelihood of gastric reflux. 3. Esophageal motility disorders, such as weakened esophageal peristalsis, which prolongs the retention time of gastric contents in the esophagus and increases the likelihood of reflux. 4. Excessive gastric acid secretion, which may erode the gastroesophageal sphincter and impair its function.
