Can I eat durian during the late stages of pregnancy if I have high blood sugar?
Disease description:
My wife is 36 weeks pregnant and her blood sugar levels are somewhat elevated. I would like to know if it is safe for her to eat durian during the late stages of pregnancy when blood sugar is high.
High blood sugar levels in the late stages of pregnancy do not recommend eating durian, for the following reasons:
1. **High sugar content**: Durian is rich in starch and sugar, with a sugar content as high as 25%-28%, making it a high-sugar fruit. For pregnant women who already have high blood sugar, consuming durian may further elevate blood glucose levels.
2. **Health risks**: Pregnant women with high blood sugar who consume durian in the late stages of pregnancy may develop acute diabetic complications, such as hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state. This can be harmful not only to the pregnant woman herself but may also negatively affect the fetus, potentially leading to macrosomia, developmental abnormalities, and even neonatal hypoglycemia.
3. **Dietary recommendations**: Pregnant women with high blood sugar should limit their intake of high-sugar foods such as durian, honey, and brown sugar during late pregnancy. Instead, they can moderately increase consumption of low-sugar, high-fiber foods such as whole grains and leafy vegetables to help maintain stable blood sugar levels.
