How to Treat Polycystic Kidney Disease
Disease description:
I have recently been experiencing lower back pain, and sometimes severe abdominal pain as well. At first, I thought there was an issue with my lumbar spine, but later I found out I have polycystic kidney disease. How is polycystic kidney disease treated?
Treatment of polycystic kidney disease mainly includes the following aspects:
1. General treatment: Delay further damage to kidney function through measures such as bed rest, low-salt diet, and drinking more warm water. At the same time, avoid strenuous exercise to prevent cyst rupture.
2. Medication therapy: Treat complications accordingly—for example, using antihypertensive drugs (such as captopril, metoprolol, etc.) for hypertension, and using non-nephrotoxic or low-nephrotoxic antimicrobial agents (such as levofloxacin, etc.) according to drug sensitivity results in case of infection.
3. Surgical treatment: When cysts are large or severe complications occur, such as massive hemorrhage due to cyst rupture or uncontrollable hypertension, surgical removal of the cyst or even one kidney may be performed. Currently, laparoscopic cyst decortication is commonly used.
4. Regular monitoring: Even in the absence of complications, regular clinical and imaging examinations should be conducted to promptly detect and address potential issues.
