Dr. Yang Ziqi
Patients with cirrhosis can eat fish, but should pay attention to the following: 1. Nutritional supplementation: Fish meat is rich in high-quality protein. For patients with cirrhosis, moderate consumption helps supplement necessary proteins and amino acids, improve hypoalbuminemia, and alleviate symptoms such as weight loss and ascites. 2. Limitations: If the patient has poor liver compensatory function or has already developed hepatic encephalopathy, protein intake should be restricted, as excessive protein can easily produce ammonia in the intestines, potentially worsening hepatic encephalopathy. 3. Cooking methods: It is recommended to choose light cooking methods such as steaming or boiling, and avoid frying, grilling, or other methods that increase fat intake or result in excessively hard food. 4. Food selection: Avoid consuming fish with high levels of eicosapentaenoic acid, as this substance may not be suitable for patients with cirrhosis.
