Causes of Uremia
Disease description:
Recently, I was hospitalized in the nephrology department, and the elderly gentleman next to me suffered from uremia, said to be incurable. May I ask, what are the causes of uremia?
The causes of uremia can be summarized as follows:
1. Chronic kidney disease: Such as chronic glomerulonephritis, which is the main cause of uremia, accounting for up to approximately 85%.
2. Systemic diseases: Poorly controlled systemic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension can cause kidney damage, which may progress to uremia. Among patients with diabetes, about 30% may eventually develop uremia.
3. Infectious diseases: Long-term infections such as chronic pyelonephritis and renal tuberculosis can lead to decreased kidney function and induce uremia.
4. Urinary tract obstruction: Obstruction of the urinary tract caused by conditions such as urinary stones or benign prostatic hyperplasia can also lead to kidney damage and ultimately cause uremia.
5. Other factors: These include drug-induced kidney injury, congenital or hereditary kidney diseases, and toxic kidney diseases, all of which may increase the risk of developing uremia.
