What are the common diseases caused by fungal infections?
Disease description:
It might be due to environmental factors that my athlete's foot recurs frequently, and I have had fungal infections before. I would like to know what are the common diseases caused by fungal infections?
There are many common diseases caused by fungal infections. Based on the infection site, they can be classified as follows:
1. Superficial fungal infections: These mainly affect the outermost layer of the stratum corneum of the skin, such as tinea versicolor and tinea nigra. These diseases typically do not provoke deep tissue reactions.
2. Cutaneous fungal infections: Common examples include tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea manuum (hand fungus), tinea corporis (ringworm of the body), tinea cruris (jock itch), and tinea capitis (scalp ringworm). These infections involve the stratum corneum of the skin and its appendages.
3. Subcutaneous fungal infections: Examples include sporotrichosis and chromoblastomycosis. These fungal infections penetrate deeper into the skin and subcutaneous tissues, including muscles and connective tissues. However, they generally do not spread to vital organs via the bloodstream.
4. Systemic fungal infections: Examples include candidiasis, aspergillosis, and cryptococcosis. These fungal infections not only affect the skin and subcutaneous tissues but also involve deeper tissues and organs, potentially leading to disseminated infections, which are often severe.
