Hepatitis A, abbreviated as HA, is an acute liver inflammation caused by the hepatitis A virus. Its typical symptoms mainly include: sudden onset of fever, with body temperature reaching above 38°C, accompanied by chills, general fatigue, and significant loss of appetite; prominent gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, aversion to oily food, abdominal distension, and abdominal pain, especially dull pain or discomfort in the liver area (right upper quadrant); as the disease progresses, most patients develop jaundice,表现为yellowing of the skin and sclera (white of the eyes), darkened urine resembling strong tea, and light-colored stools, sometimes appearing grayish-white, due to impaired bile excretion. Additionally, hepatitis A patients may experience extrahepatic symptoms such as joint pain and rash. The course of the disease is usually self-limiting, and most patients can recover within weeks to months after appropriate rest, proper nutrition, and supportive symptomatic treatment without leaving any sequelae.
