After being stung by a wasp, the methods for reducing swelling mainly depend on the degree of local swelling. 1. Mild swelling: Topical ointments such as Bactroban ointment or Ruyi Jinhuang ointment can be gently applied to the sting site. In most patients, redness, swelling, and pain will gradually subside within 2-3 days. 2. Obvious redness and swelling: If the redness and swelling are significant, it is recommended to apply wet compresses using 75% alcohol gauze or 0.5% active iodine gauze for 18-24 hours to effectively control infection and reduce swelling. 3. Abscess formation: If local redness and swelling are accompanied by abscess formation, simple topical medication will be insufficient to resolve the condition. Medical attention is required for incision and drainage of the abscess, along with oral antibiotics (such as amoxicillin) and wound irrigation to rapidly reduce swelling.
