The method for reducing swelling after a wasp sting depends on the degree of local swelling. If the sting is mild, topical application of antibiotics ointment such as百多邦 (Fusidic acid ointment) or 如意金黄膏 (Ruyi Jinhuang ointment) can be used. Most patients will experience a gradual reduction in local redness, swelling, and pain within 2-3 days. If swelling and redness are more pronounced, wet compresses with 75% alcohol-soaked gauze or 0.5% povidone-iodine gauze can be applied locally for 18-24 hours to control infection and reduce swelling. If local redness and swelling are accompanied by abscess formation, incision and drainage of the abscess are required, followed by alternating irrigation with povidone-iodine, hydrogen peroxide, and normal saline. Oral antibiotics such as amoxicillin should also be administered for anti-infective treatment. In addition, measures such as removing the stinger and applying ice packs can also help relieve swelling and pain. If necessary, seek timely medical attention and follow the advice of a physician.
