Brown discharge may be caused by various factors:
1. Physiological causes: During menstruation, ovulation, or one or two days before or after the menstrual period, brown or dark brown discharge may appear due to endometrial shedding or changes in estrogen levels. This is considered normal.
2. Sexual intercourse: Minor vaginal injury or irritation during sex may result in brownish blood in the discharge, which usually disappears quickly.
3. Gynecological conditions: Such as vaginitis, cervicitis, endometritis, endometriosis, and uterine fibroids. These conditions may cause brown discharge, often accompanied by other symptoms including itching, pain, and abnormal odor.
