What causes brown discharge during early pregnancy?
I am 30 years old and just found out I'm one month pregnant. However, recently I noticed brown discharge from the vagina and suspect that I might have some kind of illness. Doctor, may I ask what causes brown discharge during early pregnancy?
Early in pregnancy, brown discharge may be caused by various factors, including implantation bleeding, cervicitis, signs of early miscarriage, or hormonal changes. Implantation bleeding is a mild bleeding that occasionally occurs when the fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining, typically happening around the time of the expected menstrual period, with the color appearing pink or brown. Brown discharge could also result from cervical inflammation or irritation. If it is accompanied by pain, abdominal cramps, or spasms, it might indicate an early miscarriage, and medical attention should be sought promptly. Hormonal fluctuations are also common in early pregnancy and may lead to light bleeding or changes in vaginal discharge. To ensure the health of both mother and baby, pregnant women should contact their doctor immediately upon noticing any brown discharge for examination.
