Disease description:

I am 28 years old. Recently, possibly due to excessive internal heat, I keep developing mouth ulcers, and they tend to recur shortly after healing. Doctor, could you please explain why mouth ulcers tend to reoccur frequently?

Dr. Liu Chao

Recurrent oral ulcers may be caused by various factors. Abnormalities or imbalances in the immune system are often one of the main reasons for recurring oral ulcers, as the immune system's protective capability for the oral mucosa decreases, making ulcer formation more likely. Deficiencies in vitamins and minerals, especially among the B-vitamin group, vitamin C, and zinc, can also lead to frequent recurrence of oral ulcers. Prolonged mental stress and anxiety may affect oral health, making ulcers more likely to develop and recur. Poor oral hygiene, frequent oral trauma, or excessive intake of irritating foods may also contribute to recurrent episodes. Side effects of certain medications, hormonal changes, and genetic factors might also be associated with the recurrence of oral ulcers.

In daily life, it is important to maintain good oral hygiene, follow a balanced diet, reduce stress, and avoid known irritants. If ulcer problems persist or do not heal in a timely manner, prompt medical consultation and treatment are recommended.
