Can bee stings cause hives?
Disease description:
I am 23 years old. Recently during a spring outing, I was accidentally stung by a bee. Subsequently, many red rashes appeared on my skin, accompanied by itching. I was diagnosed with urticaria. I would like to know whether a bee sting can cause urticaria?
Bee stings can potentially cause urticaria. Urticaria is a systemic allergic reaction that can be triggered by various factors, including insect bites—particularly from venomous insects such as bees and wasps. When a person is stung by a bee, the venom released may provoke an immune response, leading to the release of inflammatory mediators such as leukotrienes and prostaglandins from mast cells. These substances increase capillary permeability, resulting in fluid leakage from blood vessels and the subsequent formation of urticaria.
Following a bee sting, individual reactions can vary significantly. Some people may experience only localized redness, swelling, and pain, while others may develop systemic urticaria accompanied by symptoms such as itching, palpitations, and dizziness. In daily life, it is advisable to avoid close contact with bees and other insects as much as possible to reduce the risk of being stung. If a sting occurs and severe allergic reactions develop, prompt medical attention should be sought to receive appropriate treatment.
