During my recent physical examination, the doctor diagnosed me with pelvic inflammatory disease. I would like to ask the doctor, can pelvic inflammatory disease resolve on its own?

Doctor's answer (1)
Dr. Zhao Xiaodong
Whether pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) can resolve spontaneously mainly depends on the severity of the condition and individual patient factors. In most cases, PID does not resolve on its own. PID is an infection caused by pathogenic organisms invading the body, and typically includes acute pelvic inflammatory disease and chronic pelvic inflammatory disease. If acute PID is not treated promptly, it may lead to increased inflammatory exudate, local tissue adhesion, worsening of lower abdominal pain, and may even progress to chronic PID, increasing the difficulty of treatment. In rare cases, if symptoms of PID are very mild, the patient has strong immunity, maintains regular lifestyle habits, keeps warm properly, and refrains from sexual activity during the course of the disease, spontaneous resolution may occur in some patients. However, such cases are uncommon and highly unpredictable.
