Does hysterectomy affect sexual life?
Disease description:
Due to some gynecological conditions, I need to have a hysterectomy. I would like to ask the doctor, does hysterectomy affect sexual life?
Hysterectomy generally does not directly affect sexual life. After a hysterectomy, the vagina remains intact, and the ovaries continue to secrete estrogen and progesterone, maintaining the normal structure and function of the vagina. Therefore, there is no direct impact on the sexual intercourse passage or sexual response mechanisms.
However, hysterectomy may have some indirect effects. For example, sexual activity should be avoided during the postoperative recovery period to prevent wound infection or dehiscence. Additionally, some women may experience psychological concerns or fear related to hysterectomy, which might influence sexual life to a certain extent. Over time and with physical recovery, these effects usually diminish or disappear gradually.
The quality of sexual life after hysterectomy depends on multiple factors. If there are any concerns or sexual dysfunction issues, individuals should consult their doctor for advice and assistance.
