Trachoma Symptoms
Disease description:
I am 34 years old this year, and my eyes have been bloodshot recently. I suspect it might be trachoma. I would like to know, what are the symptoms of trachoma?
Trachoma is a common infectious eye disease caused by Chlamydia. Its main symptoms include:
1. Itchy eyes: Patients often feel a foreign body sensation and unbearable itching in the eyes, especially around the edge of the cornea.
2. Red eyes: The eyes become bloodshot, and the conjunctiva (the transparent membrane covering the outer layer of the eyeball) becomes red and swollen.
3. Increased eye discharge: Upon waking in the morning, the upper and lower eyelids may be stuck together, accompanied by mucus or mucopurulent discharge.
4. Burning sensation: There is a feeling of irritation in the eyes, similar to the sensation of sand rubbing against the eye.
5. Light sensitivity: Increased sensitivity to light, with blurred vision in bright light.
6. Corneal complications: If left untreated, trachoma can lead to keratitis, which may affect vision.
Note: If symptoms persist or worsen, seek medical attention promptly.
