Can patients with high blood sugar eat durian?
Disease description:
Today I bought a durian, which I really want to eat. However, during a recent blood glucose check, my doctor mentioned that my blood sugar level was a bit high. I would like to ask, can patients with high blood sugar eat durian?
Patients with high blood sugar are not advised to consume durian, for the following main reasons:
1. High sugar content in durian: Durian is a fruit with a high sugar content, approximately between 26% and 28%, significantly exceeding that of most other fruits. This high sugar content can easily lead to a rapid increase in blood glucose levels after consumption, which is detrimental to stable blood sugar control.
2. High glycemic index of durian: Durian has a relatively high glycemic index, meaning it is quickly digested and absorbed in the body, converting into glucose and further elevating blood sugar levels.
3. Impact on disease management: For individuals with high blood sugar, especially those with diabetes, poor long-term blood sugar control can lead to various complications, such as cardiovascular diseases and neuropathy. Therefore, avoiding the intake of high-sugar foods like durian is crucial for managing the condition.
