Disease description:

My feet have been particularly itchy these two days, and many small red rashes have appeared. The doctor diagnosed it as prickly heat (heat rash). Why would prickly heat develop on the feet?

Dr. Wang Xiaoyan
The main causes of miliaria (heat rash) on the feet include: 1. Climate and environmental factors: In summer or in hot, humid, and stuffy environments, the feet tend to sweat easily and the sweat does not evaporate effectively, creating conditions favorable for the development of miliaria. 2. Wearing non-breathable shoes and socks: Wearing shoes and socks that do not allow proper ventilation can hinder airflow and sweat evaporation from the feet, causing sweat to remain on the skin for prolonged periods and leading to miliaria. 3. Excessive friction or pressure: Excessive rubbing or compression of the feet may damage the skin barrier, allowing easier bacterial invasion and triggering miliaria. 4. Underdeveloped sweat glands: In newborns or children, the sweat glands may not be fully developed, leading to impaired sweat excretion, which can result in sweat accumulation on the feet and subsequent miliaria.
