Is eczema contagious? What causes it?
Disease description:
I have recently developed a lot of eczema on my body, accompanied by redness of the skin and occasional itching. Is eczema contagious?

Eczema is not contagious; it is a skin inflammatory disease caused by the combined effects of multiple factors. The causes of eczema include, but are not limited to, the following aspects:
1. **Genetic factors**: Eczema has a clear familial tendency, and individuals with a family history are more susceptible to developing the condition.
2. **Immune system abnormalities**: Abnormal immune responses may lead to the development of eczema, such as overreactions to certain common substances (e.g., pollen, dust mites).
3. **Skin barrier dysfunction**: The skin barrier function in individuals with eczema may be impaired, making the skin more vulnerable to irritation and infection.
4. **Environmental factors**: High temperatures, humidity, dry climates, excessive washing, and frequent use of irritating chemicals may trigger or worsen eczema.
5. **Allergens**: Exposure to allergens such as dust mites, pollen, and pet dander may cause the immune system to overreact, leading to worsening of eczema symptoms.
