Is hepatitis contagious?
I was admitted to the hospital for tests this week and was diagnosed with hepatitis. I'm very worried about transmitting it to my family. I would like to ask, is hepatitis contagious?
Hepatitis is a type of liver inflammation primarily caused by viruses and is categorized into several types, such as hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E.
Among these, hepatitis A, B, and C are contagious and can spread through blood, mother-to-child transmission, sexual contact, and the fecal-oral route. Preventive measures should be taken to avoid transmission. Non-viral hepatitis, such as alcoholic hepatitis, drug-induced hepatitis, and autoimmune hepatitis, is not contagious. Its development is unrelated to viral infection but results from other factors causing liver inflammation and damage, so it cannot be transmitted to others through any route.
If you are concerned that you may have been exposed to a hepatitis virus, you should consult a doctor immediately for appropriate testing and evaluation. Early detection and treatment can prevent disease progression and long-term complications.
