Dr. Yang Ziqi

Albumin is the main protein in the blood, playing important roles in maintaining plasma colloid osmotic pressure, transporting nutrients, and detoxification. Elevated albumin levels (hyperalbuminemia) may be caused by the following reasons:

1. Dehydration: Severe dehydration can cause blood concentration, thereby increasing the concentration of various components in the blood, including albumin.

2. Nutritional excess: A long-term high-protein diet may lead to increased albumin levels in the blood.

3. Improved liver function: During the recovery phase of chronic liver disease, the liver's capacity to synthesize proteins may increase, leading to a temporary rise in albumin levels.

4. Kidney disease: Certain kidney conditions, such as nephrotic syndrome, may in some stages lead to a relative reduction in albumin excretion despite overall increased protein loss, potentially causing a temporary increase in albumin levels.

If albumin levels are abnormal, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly.
