Is gonorrhea a serious threat?
Disease description:
Because I often experience frequent and urgent urination, I went to the hospital for an examination, and the doctor diagnosed me with gonorrhea. Is gonorrhea a serious condition?
As a sexually transmitted disease, gonorrhea poses non-negligible health risks. This disease is caused by infection with Neisseria gonorrhoeae (commonly known as gonococcus), primarily affecting the mucous membranes of the urogenital system and causing purulent infection. Initial symptoms may include redness and swelling of the urethral opening, burning pain, frequent urination, urgency, and purulent discharge. If not treated promptly, the condition can progress and lead to serious complications such as prostatitis, seminal vesiculitis, and pelvic inflammatory disease, threatening the reproductive health of both males and females. Additionally, gonorrhea can be transmitted to sexual partners through sexual contact, increasing public health risks. Long-standing, untreated gonorrhea may also impair fertility, leading to infertility. Therefore, given the significant危害 (hazards) associated with gonorrhea, individuals should seek immediate medical attention upon noticing symptoms, receive standardized treatment, and simultaneously strengthen sexual health education to prevent disease transmission.
