Disease description:

I have a history of hepatitis B. My current test results show that my hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) level is >2500. I would like to ask the doctor: can a hepatitis B surface antigen level of >2500 be cured?

Dr. Yang Ziqi

HBV surface antigen (HBsAg) levels exceeding 2500 IU/mL typically indicate an active state of chronic hepatitis B. For patients with chronic hepatitis B, complete cure (i.e., HBsAg clearance) is difficult to achieve, but antiviral therapy can effectively control viral replication, improve liver function, and reduce the risk of cirrhosis and liver cancer.

Currently, antiviral medications such as entecavir and tenofovir can effectively suppress hepatitis B virus, reduce viral load, and help prevent disease progression. Patients need regular monitoring of liver function and viral markers, adherence to prescribed medication regimens, and lifestyle modifications such as alcohol cessation, balanced diet, and avoiding excessive fatigue.

Some patients may achieve functional cure after long-term antiviral treatment, meaning that although HBsAg has not completely disappeared, viral activity is extremely low and does not affect quality of life.
