What causes purple or black lips?
Disease description:
I have been looking particularly unwell recently, with purple lips, and I feel very unwell. I would like to ask the doctor, what are the causes of purple or blackish lips?
Black or purple lips may be caused by physiological factors, chronic bronchitis, congenital heart disease, or other reasons:
1. Physiological factors: Long-term smoking or working outdoors for extended periods, leading to prolonged ultraviolet exposure on the lips, may cause the lips to darken or turn purple.
2. Chronic bronchitis: In elderly individuals with weakened immunity or due to viral infections, chronic bronchitis may develop, which could lead to black or purple lips.
3. Congenital heart disease: Darkened lips may also be caused by congenital heart disease, which could result from medication use during early pregnancy or a history of adverse reproductive events.
