A few days ago, I accidentally suffered a burn, which is very painful and somewhat severe. I would like to ask the doctor: How should one treat a hot water burn to recover quickly?

Dr. Wang Xiaoyan
Scalds from boiling water can generally be treated with methods such as cold therapy, topical medications, and dietary adjustments to aid recovery. Severe cases or those accompanied by infection may even require surgical treatment. 1. Cold therapy: Immediately after the scald occurs, rinse or soak the affected area under clean cold running water for about half an hour. Later, ice packs can be used for cold compresses periodically to repeatedly reduce temperature and dissipate heat, thereby protecting the local tissue cells as much as possible. 2. Topical medications: Patients may apply an appropriate amount of aloe vera gel or burn ointment, which can help reduce local swelling and exudation, relieve pain, and promote tissue repair. 3. Dietary adjustments: During recovery, patients should avoid smoking and alcohol, and refrain from eating spicy or fried foods such as pepper, ginger, garlic, and barbecued dishes. Instead, they should consume more vitamin- and protein-rich foods such as radishes, tomatoes, fish, eggs, and bananas.
