How long can someone with albinism live?
Disease description:
I am a 30-year-old male. I was recently and unexpectedly diagnosed with albinism. May I ask, how long can a person with albinism live?

If albinism patients do not develop other complications, their life expectancy is similar to that of the general population. In the absence of complications, this condition does not significantly affect the patient's lifespan.
1. Albinism is a common skin disorder, possibly caused by genetic factors. The skin and hair color of affected individuals undergo changes, and symptoms such as nystagmus, ocular hypopigmentation, low vision, susceptibility to sunburn, and photophobia may also occur.
2. During the acute phase, albinism patients may receive blood transfusion therapy. If severe pulmonary fibrosis develops, lung transplantation may also be considered to alleviate symptoms. If inflammatory bowel disease is present, corticosteroid medications such as prednisone or dexamethasone may be used.
3. Albinism is a congenital hereditary skin condition for which there is currently no cure. Due to the lack of melanin protection, patients' skin is highly susceptible to sunburn and even skin cancer. In daily life, patients should take proper sun protection measures to reduce skin damage.
