Patients with herpes zoster can eat celery. Herpes zoster is a viral skin disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus infection, characterized by red rashes and blisters, accompanied by significant pain. During the course of the disease, although certain foods should be avoided, such as spicy and irritating foods like chili peppers and alcohol, as well as foods considered to exacerbate illness, such as beef, mutton, fish, and shrimp, celery—which is rich in fiber and vitamins—is not among the restricted foods. On the contrary, the nutrients in celery can help enhance immune function and are beneficial for recovery from herpes zoster. Therefore, patients with herpes zoster can consume moderate amounts of celery.
