Why Is Herpes Zoster Getting Worse Despite Treatment?
Disease description:
I am 52 years old this year. I was diagnosed with herpes zoster at the hospital and received treatment, but recently I have been feeling that my condition is getting worse. I would like to know why herpes zoster seems to be worsening despite treatment.

Herpes zoster may become increasingly severe due to various factors, mainly including:
1. Delayed treatment: Herpes zoster is caused by infection with the varicella-zoster virus. If not treated promptly after infection, the condition may progressively worsen.
2. Improper medication use: Patients failing to follow medical advice—for example, altering drug dosages or types without authorization—may experience suboptimal treatment outcomes, leading to a deterioration of the condition.
3. Compromised immune system: Individuals with weakened immunity may struggle to resist viral attacks, which could result in recurrent herpes zoster outbreaks or worsening of the condition.
4. Disease progression: New symptoms or complications may arise during treatment, such as nerve damage or secondary bacterial infections, which could exacerbate the existing condition.
5. Inadequate treatment adherence: Failure to follow standardized treatment protocols as directed by a physician—for instance, frequently changing treatment methods or interrupting therapy—may also lead to recurrence or worsening of the condition.
