Vulvar leukoplakia, medically termed as vulvar dystrophy or vulvar white lesion, is a condition affecting the skin and mucous membranes of the female external genitalia, typically presenting as depigmentation or loss of pigmentation. The exact cause remains unclear, but the following factors may be associated with its development: 1. Ovarian system dysfunction: Disruption in the normal function of the ovarian system may lead to viral infections or Candida albicans infection, which can contribute to the development of vulvar leukoplakia. Once this condition occurs, plaque-like lesions with clear boundaries often appear. 2. Nutritional imbalances: Either nutritional deficiencies or poor nutrition can lead to dysfunction of the nervous and metabolic systems, which may result in the occurrence of vulvar leukoplakia, affecting the patient's health. 3. Impaired blood supply: This condition may also be caused by circulatory disturbances. When the skin or mucosal epithelium becomes irritated, vascular dilation may occur, leading to tissue edema. Over time, this chronic condition may result in vulvar leukoplakia. 4. Inflammatory irritation: Long-term inflammatory stimulation may lead to abnormal matrix degradation, resulting in edema and swelling of collagen fibers, which may eventually cause the development of vulvar leukoplakia.
