Dr. Shen Yonghua
Mercury poisoning is a toxic condition caused by exposure to mercury, with symptoms varying depending on the route and extent of exposure. 1. Acute mercury poisoning symptoms include headache, fatigue, loss of appetite, and nausea or vomiting. Inhalation of mercury vapor or contact with liquid mercury may cause respiratory tract irritation, resulting in coughing, rapid breathing, and chest pain. Skin contact with mercury can lead to rashes, redness, and pain. 2. Chronic mercury poisoning may present with neurological damage: symptoms include tremors, unsteady gait, memory loss, and mood swings. Prolonged exposure to low levels of mercury may cause numbness and tingling in the hands and feet, as well as behavioral abnormalities and cognitive decline. 3. Other possible symptoms: kidney damage such as frequent urination, decreased urine output, and hematuria. Long-term mercury exposure may also affect the cardiovascular system, leading to hypertension and palpitations. If the above symptoms occur, prompt medical attention should be sought for mercury poisoning testing and treatment. Direct contact with mercury should be avoided, and necessary protective measures taken to reduce the risk of mercury exposure.
