Is vitiligo contagious?
Disease description:
There is a student in my child's class who has vitiligo. I'm worried that my child might also get it. Is vitiligo contagious between people?
Vitiligo is not contagious. Vitiligo is a common depigmentary skin disorder associated with multiple factors such as heredity, autoimmunity, environmental factors, and psychological factors, but it is not related to pathogenic infections. Infectious diseases are caused by pathogens and can spread between humans or from animals to humans. However, vitiligo does not involve any pathogens and therefore is not infectious. Vitiligo cannot be transmitted to others either through direct contact, indirect contact, or sexual contact. Thus, normal interaction with individuals who have vitiligo is safe, and there is no need to worry about becoming infected.
