Is a breast nodule classified as Category 4 serious?
Disease description:
The examination report shows that I have a level 4 breast nodule, with posterior echo attenuation, a纵横 ratio of 9:8, and clear boundaries. I have never heard of this condition before. Doctor, is a level 4 breast nodule serious?
Breast nodule category 4 represents a relatively serious condition. According to the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) classification, a breast nodule categorized as BI-RADS 4 indicates a 2% to 95% probability of malignancy. This category can be further divided into three subcategories—4A, 4B, and 4C—with increasing risk of malignancy. Therefore, for patients with BI-RADS category 4 breast nodules, timely further examinations are recommended, such as breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or breast biopsy, to confirm the diagnosis.
If the nodule is confirmed to be malignant, early surgical treatment should be undertaken, and comprehensive treatment such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy may also be required depending on the patient's condition. If the nodule is determined to be benign and no discomfort symptoms are present, it may be temporarily observed, but regular follow-up examinations are necessary to monitor any changes in the nodule. In daily life, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and undergoing regular breast screenings are also important measures for reducing the risk of malignant transformation of breast nodules.
